This scenic drive begins on Interstate 84 in Troutdale Oregon just east of the city of Portland. Take Exit 18 and drive south along the Sandy River until you reach the Sandy River Bridge. The keystone-shaped signs from Troutdale to Dodson and from Mosier to The Dalles will by your visual guide through the duration of this scenic Oregon road trip.

The scenery of the Columbia River Gorge is beautiful at any time of year. The many waterfalls along the route are as impressive in the spring as they are in the fall. But once the fall colors come in, you will experience a more then memorable visit to this area. The magnificient fall foliage of the Columbia River Gorge adds a new demention to this top road trip in mid October when the fall colors from the giant maple, cottonwood and ash trees paints a picture like something only seen through the eyes of Thomas Kinkade.

Waterfalls and Historic Landmarks

Grab your cameras as this drive is a photographers dream. There are a number of waterfalls to be seen along the Columbia River Highway. Of these, Multnomah Falls would have to be the all time favorite. Other waterfalls along this route include Latourell Falls, Shepherd's Dell Falls, Wahkeena Falls, Oneonta Gorge Falls and Horsetail Falls. Take the time to see each as they are all so very beautiful to look at.
